Keeping Up with the Kardashians is a Fraud

Image
A reality show is  a television program in which ordinary people are continuously filmed, designed to be entertaining rather than informative. For example Keeping Up with the Kardashians.       Everything on the show is scripted and set up to be the most dramatic that it can be and millions of people tune in to keep up with the Kardashians. Even though they have a lot of bad things that they have done like gone to jail, been accused of plagiarism, and cultural appropriation they continue to be a huge influence of the media.            Despite episodes dealing with Kim's robbery, her healing from it, and, of course, Kanye's breakdown, the show is slipping in viewers each week, going from 1.58 million to 1.41 million to 1.35 million viewers in its first three episodes,   according to The Daily Mail . Compare this with a more regular occurrence of over 2 million viewers per episode and an all-time ...

Puerto Rico still not Like Before

Image
Even after all the media coverage that the hurricanes that struck in the fall Puerto Rico has not received the same amount of help as Texas did. It's disgraceful that even after all the media coverage and how many celebrities have shown support for Puerto Rico, it has huge parts of land that don't have any electricity, o ne of the most immediate problems is power. Puerto Rico at one point lost 100 percent of its power soon after the storm hit on September 20. Noting that about 50 percent of the territory still lacks electricity, Cruz said the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) has been unable to bring back power to some of the most crucial centers for help and health care.       http://www.newsweek.com/puerto-rico-recovery-100-days-hurricane-maria-760965      It has been 100 days since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territory is struggling with scarce resources and st...

Video Games' Effect on the Brain

Image
Researchers had about 100 people play shooter games like  Call of Duty ,  Killzone, and  Borderlands 2,  along with 3D Super Mario games for 90 hours. They found that participants who favor their brain’s caudate nucleus — an area associated with the brain’s reward system and habit formation — had less grey brain(Grey matter contains most of the brain's neuronal cell bodies. The grey matter includes regions of the brain involved in muscle control, and sensory perception such as seeing and hearing, memory, emotions, speech, decision making, and self-control)  matter in their hippocampus after playing action games. The hippocampus is a major part of the brain that helps maintain spatial( spatial memory  is the part of  memory  responsible for recording information about one's environment)  and episodic memories, according to the study. Episodic memories are...

Women in the Media

Image
Women in the media are portrayed as over sexualized objects and it's not okay. The media says that it's because the people demand it but the only reason why people demand it is because the media have manipulated society into thinking that women are nothing but objects for sex. Typically in movies women hold no major roles and if they do hold major roles it's because they are looking for love with some man. Men are always at the center of the movies even if the movie seems to have a female lead if you look a little deeper it's the man who makes up a huge part of the plot and character development. And in movies with badass female superheroes the female characters are hypersexualized and put into overly sexualized positions.             For its own part, the WMC’s annual examination found that, at 20 of the nation’s top news outlets, men produced 62.3 percent of news reports analyzed during a studied period while women...

God I Hate Myself

Image
Self-deprecation is the being modest about or critical of oneself, especially humorously so.  S elf-depreciation is what's in recently it's actually kind of funny. Everyone around me has gone from being conceded to 'hating' themselves. Everyone is always saying 'I'm actually going to kill myself' or 'I'm dying'. Everyone' also always calling themselves failures even though they are clearly not. People have gone from bullying others to be 'cool' and 'hip' to bullying themselves for the amusement of others.                   Suicide unfortunately also become something cool and hip to joke about. It's like its become socially acceptable to talk about killing yourself, like no one even blinks an eye when someone mentions that. It's kind of sad that we find that cool but I guess it also represents the society that we live in. Suicide ha...

Net Neutrality Still Here?!?!?

Image
Net neutrality  is the principle that  Internet service providers  must treat all data on the  Internet  the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication.  For instance, under these principles, Internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.            The Federal Communications Commission voted on Thursday to   dismantle rules   regulating the businesses that connect consumers to the Internet, granting broadband companies the power to potentially reshape Americans’ online experiences. The agency scrapped the so-called   net neutrality   regulations that prohibited broadband providers from blocking websites or charging for higher-quality service or certain content. The federal government will also no longer regulate hig...

Online Shopping!!

Image
Online shopping has over the last decade become a huge industry that everyone seems to want to be a part of. I know that annually I spend over $200 shopping online and that that's just a small quantity compared to what other people spend. Online shopping is honestly better than actually shopping because it makes it seem like we are actually getting discounts and that we are spending a lot less money than we would if we shopped in real life. Other thing with online shopping is that you can do it from the comfort of your bed, sipping coffee, watching YouTube or listening to music where with real life shopping you have to get out of your house, drive there, and walk around til you find what you actually like. Plus online shopping has become so fast that you can get things in a matter of 2-days which is amazing. One of the only things that real life shopping has over online shopping is that you can really look at the thing you want to buy an...

All We Want for Christmas is the newest piece of tech!!!

Image
Do you remember what the holidays felt like when you were a kid? School projects took a festive turn, cookies and sweets were just a little bit sweeter, subtle hints about the gifts you wanted weren’t quite subtle enough. Everything seemed wondrous for a brief, special time. Unfortunately, being an adult means that sense of magic is likely replaced with an emotion fit for the Grinch: greed. The greed for the newest bits of technology or the newest piece of media craze.   Instead of wanting to spend time with family and get small simple gifts many of us just want the most expensive new tech available. Christmas time has become a time of bragging about how you got the newest IPhone instead of it being a time of joy and selflessness. Christmas is nothing but a huge waste of money in my opinion, the only good thing being that you get to spend some time with your family but that doesn't go well when your family starts arguing about opposing politic...

Ads!!!! They fill our world and minds..

Image
This ad is for a company named Clear who sell shampoos and body washes. The advertiser wants us the viewer to find the whole thing funny in hopes that we'll remember they made us laugh next time we go for shampoo but even then you'll still probably go with Pantene. The advertisers to me thought that making this a dirty minded witty pun would gather attention for the product and their sales would go up but this is the first time I've even heard of the brand. I think that this ad is targeting a younger more immature audience that would find it funny and pressure their parents into buying it for them. I know this because usually prepubescent boys are known for their immaturity and the high levels of dirty thoughts that constantly go through their minds. The neutral color scheme apart from the duck and actual product is very prominent because the first thing your eyes jump to is the duck and once you look at the duck you start to wander what the ad is about and look at the b...

"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI,"

Image
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/03/us/politics/trump-fbi-tatters.html http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/03/politics/flynn-firing-dowd-tweet/index.html  These two articles are about the same event yet the authors chose to write about completely different parts of the event.  James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, testified before Congress in May that Mr. Trump had asked him to drop the inquiry into Mr. Flynn one day after Mr. Trump had fired Mr. Flynn. Mr. Comey declined to do so, and the president fired him several months later.  Flynn pleaded guilty  Friday to lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russia's ambassador to the US during the transition and disclosed that he is cooperating with the special counsel Robert Mueller's office. Pressed about whether the tweet signaled Trump knew Flynn had lied to the FBI before firing him, Dowd rejected the assessment. "At the time of the firing no one including Justice had accused Flynn of lying," Dowd ...

It's Just Music? Right?

Image
New songs are coming out constantly but what makes a song good or bad. Is it the rhythm or the lyrics ? Is it maybe the singer ? Well I think it's all of them. Music influences both culture and what society thinks is ethically correct. Music to me is a huge part of what I believe in and what I like so I think that it does the same to other people. The definition of music is a   vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Music influences our society and media so much that the media is constantly talking about how music influences us and many of the trends that we want to participate in are started by singers. Music also brings us together culturally as cultures have traditional music that most of their people like but music also brings people from different cultures together because we find something in common that we both like or dislike. I ...
